Summer-Fall 2022

This year has been much busier at the historic site than in recent years.

Five weddings were held throughout the summer and fall.  Two had been postponed since 2019 due to the pandemic and provincial regulations regarding the capacity restrictions for any gatherings.  Once again all were held on warm and sunny afternoons. One wedding was filmed for television show Big Timber on the History Channel briefly showed the interior of the chapel.

On June 28th the Annual General Meeting was held at the school house on the historic site.  The minutes of the meeting will be posted on our web site within a few weeks.

As some of the readers living either on the Lower Mainland of B.C. or Vancouver Island are aware there was a prolonged drought lasting for up to 110 days until it finally rained near the end of October.  For this reason we did not use the in-ground irrigation system although we maintained the front gardens with a trickle hose system as was required.

On Sunday, September 25 the Society welcomed a delegation on honor of the Canadian National British Home Child Day.  Two displays in recognition of Mollie Preece and Molly Harris (White) as well as a number of historic photos were in the chapel.  We mentioned that it was on this date, September 25th, 1935 that the first party of 27 boys and 14 girls from England arrived at the new Prince of Wales Fairbridge Farm School.  Molly, a member of this party requested to have her ashes spread at the chapel and what a fitting opportunity to complete her wish.
